The Rivers State Government has shut down 21 unauthorized health facilities in four local government areas as part of an enforcement operation that revealed alleged baby trafficking and racketeering, leading to the arrest of three individuals for legal action.
This operation, orchestrated by the Rivers State Ministry of Health in the third quarter of 2026, involved a coordinated effort with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) at Manda Clinic and Maternity, Elelenwo, where officials reported that a Liberian national claimed to have arranged the procurement of three children from the facility within a month.
The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Vincent Wachukwu, shared this information during the Ministry’s third-quarter press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, October 5, 2026.
