APC Chieftain Downplays Iyabo Obasanjo’s Exit, Throws Full Weight Behind Yayi

A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ogun State and Convener of the Ogun West Initiative, Bolaji Adeniji, has dismissed the resignation of former Senator Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo from the party, saying her exit will have no negative impact on the APC’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.  

  

Speaking at a media briefing in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Adeniji expressed strong confidence in the party’s consensus governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi. 

  

 Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and a former Senator representing Ogun Central, recently resigned from the APC after failing to emerge as the party’s governorship candidate. 

In her resignation letter, she accused the party leadership of disrespect, rejection, and unfair treatment.  

  

 Adeniji, however, argued that her departure was inconsequential, noting that she had not made any significant investment or contribution to the growth of the APC in Ogun State.
