The Oyo State Government is set to evaluate mental health services in its 33 local government areas, alongside training frontline healthcare professionals to recognize mental health issues, deliver initial treatment, and connect patients with specialized care.
This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, during the 2026 World Mental Health Day celebration organized by the Oyo State Ministry of Health in partnership with New World Specialist Hospital, ASIDO Foundation, and other collaborators at Ring Road State Hospital, Ibadan.
Ajetunmobi explained that the evaluation will include input from the hospitals’ management board, the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, and additional stakeholders to pinpoint underserved areas and inform specific interventions.
Indicators such as service availability, patient usage, the quantity of healthcare workers trained, supported facilities, and completed referrals will be used to measure progress.
The commissioner highlighted the launch of psychiatric clinic services at General Hospital, Saki, as part of these initiatives.
