The Federal Government has sanctioned N40.7 billion for allocation to states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), while also extending assistance to more than 13,000 primary healthcare facilities to enhance access to vital health services.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, revealed this on Wednesday in Abuja during the 16th BHCPF Ministerial Oversight Committee (MOC) gathering.
Pate noted that the rise in government revenue has led to increased funding for primary healthcare, with monthly allocations to the fund and the states nearly doubling due to the fiscal reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He mentioned that the committee had given the green light for the addition of 5,000 new facilities to the initiative, raising the total number of primary healthcare centers receiving support to over 13,000.
As per his statement, the selection of these new facilities would be determined based on equity factors, which encompass disease burden and population demographics.
