Army restores calm in C’River after Cameroonian troops’ border incursion

The Nigerian Army said it has resolved tensions following an unauthorised incursion by Cameroonian troops into Danare community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The army said the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, was promptly contained by Nigerian troops deployed to the area, preventing further escalation.

The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, disclosed this in a statement issued in Enugu on Thursday.

According to Ayeni, troops at the Forward Operating Base, Danare, responded after receiving reports of the presence of Cameroonian soldiers in the community and immediately contacted the appropriate military authorities in Cameroon.

He said the engagement led to the withdrawal of the foreign troops from Nigerian territory in line with established border protocols.

Ayeni said preliminary findings showed that the incident stemmed from a dispute over the collection of levies on farmland located between Danare community in Nigeria
