Former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has expressed surprise over the arrest warrant issued against him by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts.
In a letter dated June 10, 2026, Kyari explained that he had earlier notified the committee of his absence due to medical treatment abroad.
He said his correspondence, sent on May 8 and received on May 11, made clear that he was unable to attend hearings physically but was willing to cooperate fully.
“I am deeply shocked by the issuance of the warrant, especially as I had earlier communicated with your committee via a letter dated and received on 11th May, 2026,” Kyari wrote.
He added that he had offered to respond to questions in writing to avoid delaying the committee’s work and reiterated his readiness to appear once he returns to Nigeria.
