Artificial Intelligence driven digital services, platform ecosystems, and intelligent networks are becoming the real engine of growth, according to the GSMA’s Mobile Economy 2026 report.
The report reveals that mobile technologies already underpin the global economy at massive scale, supporting 8.8 billion wireless connections and 5.8 billion unique subscribers around 70 percent of the world’s population.
The most significant shift is in direction as the industry evolves from a connectivity provider into a core pillar of the global AI-powered digital economy.
In 2025, mobile technologies and services generated $7.6 trillion in economic value which is equal to 6.4 percent of global GDP, a figure which is projected to surge to $11.3 trillion by 2030, lifting the sector’s contribution to 8.4 percent of global GDP as 5G, AI, and next-generation digital platforms expand across both consumer and enterprise markets.
