Sumner Sambo, Director of News at Arise Television, has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio for attributing Nigeria’s insecurity to opposition forces, warning that such claims trivialize a national crisis.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Monday, Sambo reacted to Akpabio’s statement that political opponents of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are fueling insecurity to tarnish the country’s image.
“For Akpabio to say that the opposition is sponsoring insecurity is reducing a serious issue to politics,” Sambo said.
“If the Senate President is making these sorts of statements, we won’t get to the root of the problem.”
He urged President Tinubu to question Akpabio’s “reductionist approach,” stressing that insecurity affects all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation.
Sambo further argued that opposition politicians lack the military or police power to terrorize citizens, adding that framing insecurity as politically driven undermines efforts to address the real causes.
