The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil, has condemned the alleged illegal review of the governing document and the attempt to impose it on members.

The union rejected the documents in their entirety due to the failure of the university administration to comply with the laid-down procedures for amending the document, as enshrined in Section 21 of the KUST Amendment Law 2017.

The chairman and secretary of KUST ASUU, respectively, Dr Aliyu Yusuf Ahmad and Dr Abubakar Ibrahim Tukur, instructed members in a communiqué issued on Monday after a meeting to abstain from recognising or using any of the said documents.

They further requested the approval of the National Executive Council of ASUU for active non-compliance until the issue, among other demands of the branch, is resolved by the university administration.

The chairman noted that the union had consistently demonstrated commitment to industrial harmony and academic stability in the university, adding that this position had been strengthened by the efforts of the Kano State government in improving staff welfare and promoting the higher education sector in the state.

According to him, “Congress observed with dismay the action of the University Administration to impose the new governing documents on members that are harmful and injurious to the development of the University.”

The union alleged that “the documents were mischievously approved without duly engaging stakeholders and without following due process laid down by Section 21 of the Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST)
