Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has introduced stringent measures to combat banditry and kidnapping, including a ban on jerrycan fuel sales and the shutdown of Point of Sale (POS) centres across the state.
The directives are contained in a new Executive Order issued following an emergency security meeting with security agencies, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders aimed at tackling the persistent insecurity in parts of the state.
According to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, on Tuesday, the measures are designed to disrupt the supply networks and operational capabilities of criminal elements operating from forests and remote areas.
Governor Radda explained that intelligence reports revealed how some of these facilities were being exploited by bandits to coordinate and sustain their criminal activities. The ban on jerrycans specifically targets the supply of fuel to criminals in hideouts.
