Davido, Omokri Clash Over ‘Bring Them Home’ Jacket at World Cup Concert

Ambassador-designate to Mexico and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has defended his criticism of Afrobeats star Davido after the singer wore a jacket highlighting abducted schoolchildren during a FIFA World Cup countdown concert in Los Angeles.

Davido’s jacket featured the names of over 40 pupils and teachers kidnapped in Oyo State in May, alongside the message “Bring Them Home.”

While many praised the gesture, Omokri argued it inadvertently gave terrorists the publicity they seek.

The dispute escalated when Davido posted a video of Omokri on Instagram, mocking him with a caption that included insults.

In response, Omokri condemned the language as “vulgar” and unbecoming of an international celebrity representing Nigeria.

Omokri reiterated that while Davido’s intentions may have been noble, amplifying terrorist acts on global stages risks aiding recruitment, spreading fear, and boosting funding.

He drew parallels with the 2014 Chibok Girls abduction, claiming the global #BringBackOurGirls campaign complicated rescue efforts and emboldened Boko Haram.
