Media personality Denrele Edun has revealed the reason behind his symbolic self-marriage during his 45th birthday celebration.
The entertainer, born Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun, shared a video on June 13 announcing the unconventional union, which quickly sparked widespread reactions online.
In an Instagram story posted Tuesday, Denrele explained that the act was a personal tribute to his resilience and journey through years of challenges and triumphs.
“Till death didn’t do us part. So I married myself. After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak and triumph, I remain the greatest love story I’ve ever known,” he wrote.
He added that the symbolic marriage represented embracing every version of himself that contributed to his growth: “I am the bride and the groom. And I am marrying every version of myself that fought to get here. Today, I marry the only person who never left my side: ME!”
