Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria’s Senate, has stated that she did not see or review the committee report that resulted in the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central).
Kingibe made the disclosure during a Wednesday interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme. She explained that she was attending a tax reform retreat at the time the report was considered by the Senate.
“I never saw the report that led to Natasha’s suspension. I was at a retreat,” she said. Kingibe noted that she had previously mentioned being with three or four other senators who were members of the relevant committee.
According to her account, she and some colleagues attended a session of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, signed the attendance register, and then left for the tax reform retreat, which she viewed as more important for her constituents.
