Akwa Ibom state government targets reliable electricity within 18 months


The Akwa Ibom state executive council (EXCO) has directed the immediate operationalisation of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission as part of efforts to achieve reliable electricity supply within 18 months.

In a statement on Thursday, Governor Umo Eno said the decision was among key resolutions reached at the latest EXCO meeting.

Eno said the council reviewed the take-off requirements for the electricity regulatory commission and approved measures to support its operations.

According to the governor, EXCO directed the immediate provision of essential facilities for the commission. He added that the commission has also been tasked with preparing a work plan and budget aimed at delivering efficient and reliable power supply within the 18-month target.

Eno said the council ratified matters relating to the deployment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses already at the Lagos seaport.
