The movement restriction imposed by the Ondo State Police Command ahead of the Ondo South Senatorial District bye-election on Saturday largely collapsed as residents within the 6 local government areas freely moved about and economic activities went on without interruption across major communities.
The restriction, which was scheduled to run from 0600hrs to 1800hrs, was announced by the police as part of security arrangements to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process. The Command had also assured that adequate security personnel were deployed across polling units, collation centres and strategic locations within the district.
However, our Correspondent who monitored the exercise could see that in several towns and communities within the senatorial district, there was no visible enforcement of the directive as vehicles operated normally on major roads. Private cars, commercial buses and motorcycles were seen transporting passengers without hindrance.
