The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development has announced plans to embark on an extensive inspection of projects across all Local Government Areas, LGAs, and Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, in the state.
The exercise is scheduled to commence on Monday, June 22, 2026.
Speaking ahead of the oversight tour, the Chairman of the Committee, Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde, said the initiative forms part of the Assembly’s constitutional responsibility to ensure accountability, transparency, and effective service delivery at the grassroots level.
He explained that the inspection would enable lawmakers to physically assess both ongoing and completed projects, determine their level of execution, and evaluate their direct impact on residents, while also ensuring that public funds are properly utilized for developmental purposes.
Babatunde noted that local governments remain the tier of government closest to the people, playing a critical role in delivering essential services and infrastructure. He stressed that all council projects must align with approved standards and reflect the genuine needs of residents.
He further clarified that the oversight exercise is not aimed at targeting any local government administration, but rather at strengthening good governance, improving institutional accountability, and promoting prudent management of public resources.
According to him, the committee remains committed to supporting policies and programmes that enhance grassroots development, strengthen local governance structures, and improve the overall quality of life of residents across Lagos State.
