The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that two kidnap victims abducted in Igbope have been freed following an ultimatum issued by Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, in a statement on Sunday, described the circulating video suggesting the victims’ release as “false, unfounded, and misleading.”
The victims, identified as Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi and her son, were abducted on June 16, 2026, by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Rumors spread online that they had regained freedom after Igboho’s intervention, but police insist they remain in captivity.
Ayanlade emphasized that efforts are ongoing to secure their safe release and urged the public to verify information before sharing or believing it.
He assured that the command is committed to rescuing the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
