Newly recruited civil servants in Oyo State have formally rejected the government’s recently introduced contributory pension scheme, describing it as an additional burden that will worsen workers’ hardships.
The employees, who joined the service in January 2025, conveyed their concerns in a “Save Our Souls” petition addressed to Governor Seyi Makinde.
The petition, made available in Ibadan, urged the governor to exempt them from the new arrangement and allow them to remain under the existing pension system.
According to the workers, they accepted their appointments with the expectation that their pension benefits would align with those of colleagues already serving under the previous scheme.
They argued that applying the contributory pension scheme retroactively to their employment terms would be unfair and demoralizing.
The petition reads in part: “We respectfully submit that allowing officers employed in January 2025 to remain under the pension arrangement that existed before the re-introduction of the CPS would promote industrial harmony,
