Kogi varsity security nabs 400-level student over forced cult initiation

Security operatives in close collaboration with the management of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, have arrested a 400-level student over alleged attempted forced cult initiation, physical assault, and threats to life.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale.

The suspect, Mr Adejo Ojonimi, 25, of the Department of Economics with Matriculation No. 23EC1103, was apprehended on Friday, June 19, 2026, by the University Vigilante Service.

The arrest followed a formal complaint from a spillover student in the Department of Food Science and Technology.

According to Ojonimi, who resides in the NTA area behind the campus, he was approached and demanded that he join a group he identified as the “Black Axe Confraternity”.

The student alleged that after he refused, he was physically assaulted, injured, and repeatedly threatened with severe consequences if he failed to submit to initiation.
