Court Dismisses Sowore’s Application to Remove Judge from Trial

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday dismissed an application filed by Omoyele Sowore seeking the recusal of the presiding judge in his ongoing trial over comments describing President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Sowore, is facing prosecution by the Department of State Services (DSS) over the remarks against Tinubu.

Earlier in June, Sowore had renewed his request for Justice Mohammed Umar to withdraw from the case, alleging bias and hostility in court proceedings. He also claimed members of his legal team refused to continue representing him, citing what they described as unfair treatment.

In a post on X after Monday’s hearing, Sowore said he personally argued the fresh application, stating that he was forced to represent himself following his lawyers’ withdrawal.

He further alleged that attempts to have the case reassigned through the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court were unsuccessful.
