Iran tried smuggling IRGC members into their World Cup delegation – US

Markwayne Mullin, the US Secretary of Homeland Security, says Iran tried to smuggle individuals with “direct ties” to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as part of its World Cup delegation.

The US official made the claims in an interview with Fox News on Sunday.

Mullin said the US accepted 53 members of the Iranian national team delegation coming into the country for the 2026 World Cup. He added that the White House had to deny entry to several others included on the travel list because of their alleged links to the IRGC.

“The rest of the individuals that Iran had tried to bring in, also had direct ties to the IRGC and aren’t their normal travelling group,” the US homeland secretary said.

“So these games that Iran plays, unfortunately, make them an adversary that you can’t trust.”

The IRGC is the most powerful
