The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Baba Azare, has called for enhanced inter-agency collaboration to address rising maritime security threats, particularly sea piracy, within Nigeria’s coastal environment.

Azare made the call on Monday in Uyo when he received the Commandant of the Naval Warfare College Nigeria, Rear Admiral M.A. Muye, alongside participants of Naval Warfare Course 10, who were on an operational study visit to Akwa Ibom State.

The visit, which forms part of the participants’ field study themed “Maritime Security and Socio-Economic Development: Akwa Ibom State in Perspective,” is aimed at exposing senior military officers to contemporary security challenges and the link between maritime safety and national economic growth.

The police commissioner stressed that effective maritime security requires a coordinated multi-agency response involving the Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services, Nigeria Customs
