Oyo govt warns against road blocks, thuggery during Ibadan Egungun Festival

The Oyo State Government has warned individuals and groups against road obstruction, thuggery and any act capable of disrupting public peace during the 2026 Egungun Festival in Ibadan.

Wasiu Olatubosun, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism who conveyed this message in a statement in Ibadan, stressed that the government remains committed to maintaining law and order throughout the festival period.

According to him, reports indicate that some persons have been taking advantage of the festival to block roads and hinder the free movement of residents and motorists, describing such actions as unlawful and unacceptable.

Olatubosun urged all participants and stakeholders to celebrate responsibly, noting that while citizens have the right to observe their cultural and religious festivals, such celebrations must not infringe on the rights of others or constitute a public nuisance.
