A former member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Ayodeji Arowele, has filed a lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force, challenging what he described as his unlawful arrest ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election held last month.
Arowele, who vied for the Owo/Ose Federal Constituency ticket, claimed he was arrested on May 16, 2026, just hours before the primary began. He argued that the action violated his fundamental rights under the 1999 Constitution. Through his counsel, Chief Kunle Ijalana, the two-term lawmaker is seeking ₦50 million in damages and a declaration that the police invasion of his hotel room was unconstitutional.
The suit lists the IGP, the Nigeria Police Force, ASP Ebito Ephraim, CSP Hilary Mazi, and Mr. Yusuf Sanya Isiaka as respondents. Arowele also asked the court to restrain the police from further arresting or threatening him, insisting
