The Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD), founded by former presidential Chief of Staff Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, has inaugurated a reconstituted Council of the Wise to promote peace and credibility ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The council, chaired by retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, was unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja.
Gambari, who also serves as chairman of the centre, charged members to engage political leaders, security agencies, religious figures, and traditional rulers to prevent electoral violence and foster national unity.
“The purpose of establishing the Council of the Wise is to tap from the individual and collective knowledge, rich experience and wisdom of the members to facilitate a peaceful, credible, free and fair election,” Gambari said during the inauguration.
The council includes respected figures such as Prof Shuaibu Oba Abdulraheem, actress Joke Silva, Amb. Godknows Igali, Prof Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, Prof Abdullahi Shehu Yibaikwal, Tunji Lardner, Amb. Abdulaziz
