The management of Kwara State Polytechnic has suspended a lecturer captured in a viral video physically reprimanding students.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, by Halimat Garba, the institution’s public relations officer (PRO), said the video had generated concerns among stakeholders and members of the public.
Garba said the individuals seen in the footage were candidates of the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) programme who arrived late for their ongoing examinations, and not students of the polytechnic.
She said while the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s actions were yet to be fully established, the method adopted was unacceptable.
“The approach taken was wholly inappropriate as the Polytechnic stands firmly against any form of violence or physical punishment as a means of discipline,” the statement reads.
