Troops of Sector 5, Joint Task Force South-East Operation UDO KA, working alongside sister services and security agencies, have achieved a significant breakthrough against members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Anambra State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the joint team intercepted armed criminals disguised in military and police uniforms along the Ogboji–Ajali axis in Orumba South Local Government Area on 23 June 2026.
The suspects, travelling in a white Toyota Sienna, engaged troops in a fierce firefight that left three ESN operatives neutralised.
A subsequent sweep of the area uncovered a cache of weapons and explosives, including a PKM machine gun with 53 rounds, two AK-47 rifles, assorted ammunition, four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), communication gadgets, a laptop, and the vehicle used by the suspects.
