The Yobe State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged killing of a newborn baby girl whose remains were discovered concealed in a box and abandoned behind a mosque in Damaturu, the state capital.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the suspects were arrested following a swift police investigation into the incident.
Abdulkarim said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit acted on a distress call received on June 23 regarding the alleged murder of the infant.
He said, “On June 23, 2026, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit responded to a distress call concerning the alleged killing of a newborn baby and the concealment of her remains in Anguwar Boka area of Damaturu.”
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that a woman who recently gave birth to the child was allegedly involved in circumstances that led to the baby’s death.
