Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has sharply criticised Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, urging her to demonstrate confidence in the small-scale businesses she recently recommended by establishing them for members of her own family and All Progressives Congress (APC) women leaders.
Effiong made the remarks on Saturday via a post on X (formerly Twitter), responding to the First Lady’s comments encouraging Nigerian sparticularly women to venture into ventures like selling akara (bean cakes), roasted corn, and kuli-kuli (peanut snacks).
These suggestions came as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s grant programme.“Senator Remi Tinubu should first set up Corn, Akara and Kuli Kuli business for some members of her family and the APC women leaders,” Effiong wrote.
“It will encourage other Nigerians to venture into the same business. Since she believes that with such ventures, one can make enough money to feed, pay house rent, pay school fees and solve other basic needs.”
