The Federal Government has signalled plans to build an interoperable digital ecosystem for Nigeria’s livestock sector following the launch of the Kano State Livestock Information Management System (LIMS), a digital platform that integrates livestock registration, veterinary services and disease surveillance.
The move advances the digital transformation agenda of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, which is developing the National Livestock Information Management System (NLIMS) as a unified platform for livestock data management across the country, according to the government.
Designed as a centralised national repository, the NLIMS will aggregate livestock information from state governments, field officers, ministries, livestock associations and development partners to improve planning, programme monitoring, investment decisions and sector governance. The platform is also expected to support automated data exchange, web and mobile data collection, real-time dashboards, and integrated animal identification and traceability systems.
