The Imo State Police Command has arrested a suspected gun-runner from Rivers State who allegedly supplies ammunition to kidnapping syndicates operating in the state.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Bosso, disclosed this during a press briefing on Friday. He said the arrest followed the earlier apprehension of members of a kidnapping syndicate who confessed during interrogation about their source of ammunition.
In a related operation, police arrested two suspected kidnapping kingpins: Confidence Vitalis, 28, from Ukugba, Egbema in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, and Ishiaya Rejoice, 32, from Emuoha in Rivers State.
The suspects were nabbed during a follow-up raid on a suspected kidnappers’ and terrorists’ hideout in the Egbema River creek, where operatives also rescued an abducted victim.
“Intelligence obtained from the rescue operation led to the subsequent arrest of the kingpins, and their confessional statements led operatives to the suspects’ hideout,” Bosso explained.
