The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) says its Partner2Connect (P2C) Digital Coalition has surpassed US$100 billion in investment commitments, marking a major milestone in global efforts to expand internet access, strengthen digital infrastructure and accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) adoption.
The milestone comes as the United Nations estimates that about one-quarter of the world’s population remains offline, underscoring the scale of the challenge in closing the global digital divide.
Announced during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2026 in Geneva, the UN agency for digital technologies said the coalition has exceeded its original US$100 billion mobilisation target, securing commitments from governments, development finance institutions, technology companies and civil society organisations.
According to the ITU, the coalition has attracted more than 1,089 pledges from over 500 organisations across 149 countries, representing an estimated US$121 billion in commitments since its launch in 2021.
