Flutterwave is expanding its blockchain-powered payment infrastructure by enabling businesses to settle transactions in USD Coin (USDC), as the African fintech company secures a strategic investment from Circle Ventures, the investment arm of Circle Internet Financial.

The move marks another step in Flutterwave’s strategy to modernise cross-border payments by combining traditional banking systems with digital assets, giving businesses more ways to move money across Africa and the rest of the world.

Under the new arrangement, businesses using Flutterwave’s payment platform will be able to accept payments in local currencies while choosing to receive settlement in USDC, a stablecoin pegged one-to-one with the US dollar.

According to Flutterwave, the new settlement option is designed to offer faster international transfers, improved access to US dollar liquidity and the flexibility to complete transactions outside conventional banking hours.
