The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations, NACOMYO, has appealed to governments at all levels to address all the underlying social and economic problems responsible for insecurity in the country.
NACOMYO in a statement advised the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed, State Governors and local government Chairmen to look into unemployment, poverty and injustice, noting that these issues are fueling incidences of kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes in the country.
NACOMYO Coordinator in Oyo State, Dawood Afolabi made the call while reacting to the rescue of the 39 students and seven teachers that were kidnapped in Oyo State in May.
DAILY POST gathered that the students and the teachers were successfully rescued on Friday, the 10th of July, after spending 56 days in captivity.
Afolabi in the statement explained that the news of the release of the victims has brought immense relief and joy to parents, guardians, school proprietors, teachers, religious leaders, and millions of Nigerians.
He saluted the courage of security agencies and other stakeholders for the safe return of the victims and tasked the governments at all levels to create employment opportunities for young people, improve access to quality education, reduce poverty, and strengthen community development initiatives.
He added that sustainable peace can only be achieved when justice, opportunity, and good governance are accessible to all and sundry.
