Doug Wilson is an Idaho pastor and author, a theocratic Christian nationalist—his terms—with a theatrical flair and a vulgar tongue. He founded his own denomination, which now includes Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, after making “so many enemies in Reformed circles that no denomination will have him.”
Wilson began to make a national name for himself around 2008 through a series of CT-published debates with New Atheist Christopher Hitchens on whether Christianity is good for the world. More recently, his connection to Hegseth has contributed to a rising tide of media attention, this month including an NPR interview exploring Wilson’s vision for American theocracy.
