Parents of pupils at the Federal Government College (FGC) Staff School in Sokoto have expressed strong dissatisfaction over the salaries paid to teachers, describing them as grossly inadequate, especially for educators who have served for up to 20 years.
The concerns were raised during the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Annual General Meeting held on Sunday. Parents called for a minimum monthly salary of N100,000 and an additional N30,000 lesson allowance for teachers.
PTA Chairman, Jamilu Sidi, emphasized that better welfare packages for teachers would boost their morale, improve performance, and help maintain high standards of education in the school.
He warned that poor remuneration could lead to reduced productivity and negatively impact pupils’ academic outcomes.
Sidi also highlighted the need for greater transparency in the school’s financial management and more inclusive stakeholder engagement, particularly regarding decisions on school fees increments.
