The Christian Association of Nigerian Americans (CANAN) has urged the Federal Government to stop reintegrating suspected terrorists into society without first subjecting them to the judicial process, insisting that anyone accused of terrorism must be prosecuted in accordance with Nigerian law.
Speaking during a virtual press conference held via Zoom, the association said reports of the reintegration of terror suspects continue to raise concerns over justice for victims and accountability in Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts.
CANAN President, Dr. James Fadel, and the association’s Executive Director, Dr. Banjo Olaniyan, outlined the group’s position on terrorism, religious freedom and security reforms. They also highlighted remarks made by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, at the recent U.S.–Nigeria Faith Heroes Award in Washington, D.C.
The association expressed concern over reports that some captured terrorist suspects had been reintegrated without transparent legal proceedings.
