Nigeria and Egypt are set to deepen their cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and its Egyptian counterpart.
The agreement, which focuses on intelligence sharing, joint operations, and training, was discussed during a courtesy visit by the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohammed Fouad, to NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), in Abuja.Marwa emphasized that the drug menace is a global challenge requiring united action.
He noted that Nigeria has already built strong partnerships with agencies in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and India, and welcomed Egypt’s collaboration as a strategic step to counter cartels seeking new routes across Africa.
Highlighting recent successes, Marwa revealed that NDLEA operatives dismantled methamphetamine laboratories worth hundreds of millions of dollars, including one linked to Mexican cartels.
