
Lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has rejected the call by the Oyo State Governor, asking the United Nations, UN, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction and subsequent rescue of the pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
Recall that Governor Makinde had, in a statewide broadcast on Monday, shortly after the Nigerian military formally handed over the rescued pupils and teachers to him, called on the UN and other international human rights and accountability bodies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
According to the governor, the incident raised questions that required independent scrutiny beyond Nigeria’s domestic institutions.
However, Oshiomhole while proposing an additional prayer during Tuesday plenary, called on the governor to desist from demanding a UN investigation, stating that Nigeria is a sovereign nation.
