The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted Governor Douye Diri’s proposed ₦100bn, 25,000-capacity stadium project, insisting that the administration should prioritise job creation, food security, and poverty reduction.
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Ikaebimo Mark, the party said it was not opposed to infrastructure development but stressed that government spending must target projects that generate employment, stimulate local businesses, and improve living standards.
The PDP accused the Diri-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of dismissing criticism with “abuse and political name-calling” instead of addressing rising hunger and unemployment.
“Abuse and political name-calling cannot reduce the price of food, create employment for our teeming youths, revive struggling businesses, or improve the purchasing power of ordinary Bayelsans,” the statement read.
The party questioned the economic justification of the stadium project, noting that Bayelsans deserve clarity on its sustainability, expected returns, and job opportunities.
