President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday launched the construction of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway, the fourth Legacy Project under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He also approved the immediate release of ₦111 billion to kick-start the 700‑kilometre project.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during the groundbreaking ceremony for Section One, Phase One—a 125‑kilometre stretch traversing Nasarawa, Kaduna and Plateau states.
Represented at the event by APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the President described the superhighway as more than a road project, calling it a “major economic and social artery” that will connect communities across the North‑Central and North‑East, improve security, ease transportation, and stimulate trade.
Tinubu emphasized that the highway would link not just cities but “people, markets and opportunities,” noting that work had already begun on the Gombe–Maiduguri axis, with other sections to follow soon.
