Anglican Church to Politicians: Focus on Governance, Not Just the 2027 Elections

Two years into Nigeria’s current political cycle, the Anglican Church is raising a serious concern: politicians seem more focused on the 2027 elections than on delivering good governance.

This concern was voiced during the Ninth Synod of the Diocese of Oleh, Anglican Communion, which took place at St. Michael’s Church, Emevor, in Isoko, Delta State. In a communiqué released at the end of the gathering, the Synod expressed disappointment over what it described as a disturbing shift in priorities by elected officials at both the national and state levels.

The Synod notes with deep concern the growing trend among political officeholders who appear more focused on preparations for the 2027 elections than on fulfilling their responsibilities to the electorate.
