The Federal Government has approved a ₦10 billion housing loan scheme aimed at improving access to home ownership for civil servants, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, announced in Abuja.

The initiative, which is part of ongoing public service reforms, will be implemented through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board, according to The Business Bureau findings.

Walson-Jack said the programme is designed to enhance stability, welfare, and productivity within the civil service by enabling workers to own homes.

“The Federal Government has approved a ₦10 billion housing loan scheme to improve access to home ownership for civil servants,” she said.

Housing Linked to Productivity and Stability

The Head of Service stressed that home ownership has a direct impact on worker morale and efficiency, arguing that secure housing improves performance and focus.

“When a civil servant knows that their family has a place they can call their own, they come to work with more stability, more focus and more purpose,” she said.

She described the scheme as more than a welfare initiative, calling it part of a broader governance philosophy focused on human capital development.

Reform Agenda and Public Service Modernisation

Walson-Jack explained that the housing scheme aligns with wider efforts to modernise Nigeria’s civil service into a more digital, efficient, and transparent system.

She said the administration is working to build a paperless and innovation-driven public service capable of delivering stronger governance outcomes.
