‘Bandit Leader’ – Babachir Lawal Opens Up on Why He Called Atiku ‘Kachalla’

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has opened up to his exit statement, following his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he repeatedly labelled the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as “Kachalla.”

Lawal made the clarification in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

When asked by program host Seun Okinbaloye why he adopted the moniker for the former Vice President, Lawal alleged a connection to the ongoing insecurity in the country.

“Have you seen Atiku condemning bandit attacks?” Lawal questioned, explaining that the term is a title Fulani bandits traditionally bestow upon their leaders. He further claimed that Atiku’s kinsmen had been celebrating since he secured the party’s ticket.

The clarification followed the release of Lawal’s resignation letter, titled “The Kachalla Series Part 1,” just days after Atiku’s primary victory.
