Benfica are in advanced talks to appoint Marco Silva as their new head coach, with negotiations over a potential agreement understood to be progressing significantly.

Silva, who is currently in charge of Fulham, is nearing the end of his contract at Craven Cottage, which expires this month. While Fulham have offered him a renewal, the Portuguese coach has yet to accept, leaving his future uncertain.

According to BBC Sport on Tuesday, discussions between Silva and Benfica have intensified in recent days, with both parties reportedly close to reaching an agreement over a return to Portuguese football for the 48-year-old.

Benfica are seeking a new head coach following the departure of Jose Mourinho, who has left the club after a short second spell in charge. Mourinho has since signed a three-year deal to become head coach of Real Madrid.
