The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, has stepped down from his leadership position in the Green Chamber following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development was officially announced on Tuesday by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, during plenary as lawmakers resumed sitting after a four-week legislative recess.
Chinda’s resignation brings an end to weeks of political uncertainty surrounding his future, especially after he participated in the APC governorship primary election in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general election.
The lawmaker, who represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency of Rivers State, had come under scrutiny after taking part in the APC primary without publicly resigning from the PDP or relinquishing his position as the leader of the opposition caucus in the House.
