The Delta State Government has urged communities benefiting from power projects to protect electricity infrastructure provided by the state.
The Commissioner for Energy, Michael Anoka, made the appeal when leaders of Utagba-Ogbe community paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba.
While lamenting the rampant vandalism of electricity facilities across the state, the Commissioner listed “cables, transformers, solar batteries and other equipment among infrastructure frequently targeted by vandals”.
He disclosed that “the state government had committed substantial resources to securing and maintaining electricity infrastructure”.
He explained that several engineering considerations must be addressed before the execution of any electrification project.
Anoka noted that vandalism and deliberate sabotage have imposed huge financial costs on the government.
