Police investigators have interrogated Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT minister Nyesom Wike, following the leak of sensitive voter data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
On Tuesday, officers from the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) questioned Olayinka at the Police Headquarters in Abuja.
The probe, insiders say, is focused on alleged “cyber infractions, unauthorised database misuse, and leaking of classified national documents.”
An INEC electoral officer has also been detained in connection with the incident.
What Triggered the Investigation
The controversy began when Olayinka posted screenshots on X showing Nollywood actor Emeka Ike had transferred his voter registration from Imo State to Abuja. Olayinka used the data to challenge Ike’s eligibility to contest a House of Representatives seat in the FCT.
The post sparked outrage, with critics accusing Olayinka of accessing a password-protected INEC system. INEC later clarified there was no external hack, but that internal credentials had been misused.
