Stop rejecting corps members, Reps tell govt agencies

The House of Representatives has directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to end the growing practice of rejecting National Youth Service Corps members posted to them for the mandatory one-year national service.

The House warned that the trend is undermining the objectives of one of Nigeria’s most enduring nation-building programmes.

The resolution followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by the member representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, Mr Rodney Ambaiowei, during plenary on Thursday.

Titled, “Need to stop the constant rejection of National Youth Service Corps members by government offices in Nigeria,” the motion drew attention to what lawmakers described as an increasingly common practice among government institutions across the country.
