
The Kebbi State House of Assembly has elected the member representing Sakaba Constituency, Salihu Maikasuwa-Dangoje, as its new Speaker following the death of former Speaker, Mohammed Usman-Zuru.
Maikasuwa-Dangoje emerged through a unanimous endorsement by lawmakers during plenary held at the Assembly Complex in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
The election was presided over by the Clerk of the House, Sulaiman Shamaki, who said the exercise became necessary to fill the vacancy created by the death of Usman-Zuru.
Shamaki explained that the process was conducted in line with Section 92(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers members of a state House of Assembly to elect a Speaker from among themselves.
The motion nominating Maikasuwa-Dangoje was moved by the member representing Ngaski Constituency, Adamu Birnin-Yauri, and seconded by Lawal Haruna of Fakai Constituency.
